Lesson 3
Kindergarten
- March in to Mr. Drum's steady beat
- Sing "Welcome Boys and Girls" Welcome Song
- Echo slide whistle sounds - exploring high and low sounds
- Echo sing the song "No More Pie" - practicing using a good tone and matching pitch
- Sing and Participate with the story "Pete the Cat: Rocking in my School Shoes"
- Sing "Goin' to the Farm" - review the animals and instruments we have played so far (ducks/rhythm sticks, hens/tambourines)
- Introduce the Lambs - sing "Listen to the Lambs" and practice clapping only on the Baa Baa Baa.
- Learn about the Maracas and where they come from. Play maracas while singing "Listen to the Lambs. Play only on the Baa Baa Baa.
- If There is Time: Sing "My Favorite Thing To Do". Pat the steady beat on different body parts while singing the song.
1st Grade
- March in to Mr.Drum's steady beat
- Echo slide whistle sounds - exploring high and low sounds
- Review and practice So-Mi Hand signs
- Singing Name Game "I'm so Glad to See You". Each students will take turns singing their name "My name is _____" and the class will answer "His/Her name is ______"
- Review Hickory Dickory Dock poem from last lesson. Learn the song for Hickory Dickory Dock.
- Play glockenspiels going up and going down on the words up and down in the song Hickory Dickory Dock.
- Instrument Clue: Students will identify instruments by only listening to them. To identify the instrument they will hold up a picture symbol that represents that instrument. Instruments used are cowbell, triangle, tambourine, guiro, woodblock, and hand drum.
- If Time: Students will take turns playing an instrument for the instrument clue game.
2nd Grade
- March in to Mr. Drum's steady beat
- Listen to orchestral music by Beethoven (Ode to Joy and his 5th Symphony). Discuss how each piece made you feel and which we enjoyed more.
- Echo slide whistle sounds - exploring high and low sounds
- Echo sing using So-Mi Hand signs
- Echo sing "Kye Kye Kule" song from Africa
- Learn song "Charlie Over the Ocean"
- Identify which notes in the song are high and which ones are low using iconic (picture) representation of the song.
- Practice singing the song while patting on the beat and snapping on the rests.
- Transfer the patting and snapping to instruments. Patting - xylophones & metallophones. Snapping glockenspiels. Ocean Drum will be used for sound effect.
- Adding one student at a time each student will play all instruments to accompany the song "Charlie Over the Ocean.
