Lesson 4
Kindergarten
- March in to Mr. Drum's steady beat
- Echo slide whistle sounds - voice warm up
- Echo sing "No More Pie" - matching pitch and practicing a good singing voice
- Review animals and instruments we have met from "Going to the Farm"
- Sing "Going to the Farm"
- Meet the Pigs and sing "Listen to the Pigs"
- Sing "Listen to the Pigs" and play woodblocks on the Oink Oink Oink in the song
- Learn the song "Fall"
- Discuss xylophones and how to play them, also discussing high and low sounds
1st Grade
- March in the Mr. Drum's steady beat
- Echo slide whistle sounds - voice warm up
- Echo sing on Sol-Mi (solfege hand signs) - matching pitch and practicing a good singing voice
- Sing "I'm so Glad to See You" name game song - each student has the opportunity to sing his/her name and the class will respond by singing their name back to them.
- Learn/Review the song "The Muffin Man"
- Read Muffin Rhythms - pre music reading - 8 muffins are placed on plates and the teacher will point to each plate in a steady beat. If the plate has a muffin on it the students say YUM (1 sound on the beat), if there is no muffin on the plate, then the students show the quiet sign (no sound on the beat). Students will take turns taking down one muffin at a time and practice reading each rhythm until all the muffins are gone.
- Play instrument clue - students will identify 6 instruments only by listening, they will show what the instrument is by holding up a picture representation of that instrument.
2nd Grade
- March in the Mr. Drum's steady beat
- Echo slide whistle sounds - voice warm up
- Echo sing on Sol-Mi (solfege hand signs) - matching pitch and practicing a good singing voice
- Echo sing Kye Kye Kule song from Africa - if time, allow students to practice being the leader for the song
- Continue the game Charlie Over the Ocean with instruments from last week until all students have had a turn.
- Connect high and low sounds with the visual representation of the song Charlie Over the Ocean. Connect those high and low sounds with Sol-Mi. Sing the song Charlie Over the Ocean using Sol-Mi and then showing hand signs while singing the song.
- Review quarter note, eighth notes, and rests from 1st Grade
- Echo rhythms using body percussion (stomping, patting, clapping, and snapping)
Special Needs
- March in the Mr. Drum's steady beat - practice starting and stopping and going at different speeds(fast/slow)
- Sing and participate with the song "What is your name?" - practice saying name and patting the steady beat
- Move different body parts to the music - Jelly Beans
- Play drums on the steady beat and on rhythms with assistance
- Listen to fast and slow music examples and identify by pointing to the picture that corresponds with fast or slow.
- Play rainsticks to the last slow song
- Exit to "Time to Go" Song.
