Kindergarten
- March in to Mr. Drum - practice keeping a steady beat
- Learn new welcome song "Everybody Have a Seat"
- Voice Pathway cards - students will follow a curved line with their voices moving high and low to match
- Discuss a steady beat.
- Listen to "In the Hall of the Mountain King" and copy the teacher's steady beat
- Sing "Goin' to the Farm"
- Sing and play cow bells with "Listen to the Cows"
- Sing and move to "We are Scary Skeletons"
1st Grade
- March in to Mr. Drum - practice keeping a steady beat
- Voice Pathway cards - students will follow a curved line with their voices moving high and low to match
- Echo sing on Sol and Mi - matching pitch and using a good singing voice
- Sing with the story "Skeleton Hiccups" - after every part, the students will respond by singing Hic, Hic, Hic
- Sing "The Muffin Man"
- Learn about the rest - a music symbol that means to be quiet on the beat.
- Play the muffin man game from last week. When a student removes the muffin, it will be replaced with a rest.
- Learn about Ta - a music symbol that mean to make one sound on the beat. Students will take turns erasing rests and they will be replaced with a Ta.
2nd Grade
- March in the Mr. Drum - practice keeping a steady beat
- Voice Pathway cards - students will follow a curved line with their voices moving high and low to match
- Echo sing on Sol and Mi - matching pitch and using a good singing voice
- Discuss the composer Edvard Grieg
- Listen to "In the Hall of the Mountain King" by Edvard Grieg while keeping the steady beat in different ways
- Review quarter notes, eighth notes, and rests.
- Practice reading rhythms with rhythm flash cards
- Learn song "Must Be Halloween"
- Students will take turns composing 'ghost' rhythms while the class sings "Must Be Halloween". After each student is done composing we will read each students rhythm.
Special Needs
- March in to Mr. Drum - practice keeping a steady beat and starting a stopping
- "What is your name?" song by Hap Palmer - practice saying names
- "Jelly Beans" song - move different body parts to the music
- Listen to "In the Hall of the Mountain King" - practice keeping a steady beat on different parts of the body
- Play drums to the steady beat of the drumming Jam Alongs CD
- Sing song "Peter Peter Pumpkin Eater" and keep a steady beat on various instruments
- Move colorful scarves to gentle pan pipe music
- "Time to Go" song for clean up and goodbye
