Lesson Plan for October 10-21

Kindergarten
  • March in to Mr. Drum
  • Listen and sing the song story Bump, Bump, Bump
  • Introduce the music word solo - performing all by yourself
  • Echo slide whistle sounds as a group and solos
  • No More Pie - echo song as a group and solos
  • Frog in the Meadow - review song and let the class sing the song while we look for Froggie
  • Follow the teacher's movements to the steady beat while listening to In the Hall of the Mountain King
  • Sing song Goin' to the Farm - introduce the lambs
  • Sing song Listen to the Lambs and introduce the maracas and how to play them. Each student will play the maracas for every Baa in the song
  • Sing Old MacDonald with the Lamb, Hen, and Duck verse while passing out the maracas
  • Learn song We are Scary Skeletons - students will sing the song while moving around the room in different ways (walk, jump, tiptoe, etc.) Freeze in a scary statue on the word BOO!
  • Award Behavior Beats and line up
1st Grade
  • March in to Mr. Drum
  • Introduce the music word solo - performing all by yourself
  • Echo slide whistle sounds as a group and solos
  • In the Woods - echo song as a group and solos
  • Peep Squirrel - review song and let the class sing the song while students take turns coming up with motions for the word peep
  • The Muffin Man - learn/review the song - after singing the song, students will read muffin "rhythms" saying YUM for every muffin and being silent when there is not a muffin. Students will take turn removing a Muffin from the board until there are no more muffins to read
  • Big Blacks Cats - students will learn the song and motions to go with it (Clap on the words Big Black Cats - Pat laps on Running Running through the Town) Students will take turns playing the wood block for the words Big Black Cats until all have had a turn

2nd Grade
  • March in to Mr. Drum
  • Review the music word solo - performing all by yourself
  • Echo slide whistle sounds as a group and solos
  • Kye Kye Kule - echo song with motions and give opportunities to sing parts of the song as a solo
  • Hop Old Squirrel - review song and then let the class sing the song while the teacher does the movements
  • Review reading rhythms and practice using the rhythm flashcards
  • Must Be Halloween - learn the song and give each student an opportunity to write their own rhythms using ghosts that have different notes in them. After singing the song the class will read each rhythm.
