Lesson plan for October 24 - November 7

Kindergarten
  • Read and sing with the story Pete the Cat: I love my White Shoes
  • Music Assessments: each student will sing a solo of the activities and songs we have been learning
    • Slide whistle echo - solos
    • No More Pie - echo song solos
    • Frog in the Meadow - simple song solo
  • When the students sing Frog in the Meadow as a solo, they will get to come and sign their name in the Kindergarten Solo Book
  • Goin' to the Farm: sing the song and review the animals and instruments we have already met or played. Introduce the Cow and the Cowbell. Each student will play the cowbell for the words Moo Moo Moo in the song "Listen to the Cows"
  • Play moving and freezing activity from last week We are Scary Skeletons
  • Award Behavior Beats and Line Up
1st Grade
  • Music Assessments: each student will sing a solo of the activities and songs we have been learning
    • Slide whistle echo - solos
    • In the Woods - echo song solos
    • Peep Squirrel - simple song solo
  • When the students sing Peep Squirrel as a solo, they will get to come and sign their name in the 1st Grade Solo Book
  • Review song "The Muffin Man" and how to "read" the muffins. Introduce the symbol for Ta and Rest and use those in place of the muffins. 
  • Play rhythm reading game where the students act as Ta's. There will be 4 pieces of paper on the floor 3 students will choose a piece of paper to stand on. We will say Ta for each student and tap our shoulders for the paper without a student (this is the rest). Continue game until all students have had a turn. 
  • Compare the different rhythms from the game above and label them as the same or different as before.
  • Award Behavior Beats and Line Up
2nd Grade
  • Music Assessments: each student will sing a solo of the activities and songs we have been learning
    • Slide whistle echo - solos
    • Kye Kye Kule - echo song solos
    • Hop Old Squirrel - simple song solo
  • When the students sing Hop Old Squirrel as a solo, they will get to come and sign their name in the 2nd Grade Solo Book
  • Finish the activity Must Be Halloween from last week. Students will be creating and reading rhythms.
  • Review the hand signs and Sol-La-Mi Game from 1st grade last year. Students will echo the teacher using solfege hand signs (Sol-La-Me) and singing. This turns into a game of students versus teacher. You cannot echo the pattern Sol-La-Mi. If you do the other team gets a point. 
  • Review and play the game instrument clue from 1st Grade. Students will match symbol pictures of musical instruments with the correct instrument and sound without seeing the instrument.
