Lesson Plan for September 26 - October 7

Kindergarten
  • March in to Mr. Drum
  • Listen and sing the song story Bump, Bump, Bump
  • Echo slide whistle sounds
  • No More Pie - echo song
  • Frog in the Meadow - Listen to the song while looking around the room for Froggie - meet Froggie
  • Frog in the Meadow - students will learn about the instrument the guiro and play it to the steady beat while listening to the song Frog in the Meadow
  • Bubbles movement activity from last week using the recording Moonlight Sonata by Ludwig Van Beethoven
  • Watch a video clip of a Marching Band and connect it to the marching band music we listened to last when while playing our rhythm sticks
  • Sing song Goin' to the Farm - name some farm animals and stop with Hen
  • Sing song Listen to the Hens and introduce the tambourine and how to play it. Each student will play the tambourine to the cluck in the song.
  • Sing Old Mac Donald  with the Hen and Duck verses while taking up the tambourines
  • Learn the Circle Dance for the "Chicken Dance"
  • Chook, Chook  poem with motions
  • Award Behavior Beats and line up
1st Grade
  •  March in to Mr. Drum
  • Sing Me Your Name: Teacher tosses the bean bag to a student and sings "Sing me your name. Students tosses bean bag back to the teacher and sings "My name is ___________" Continue until all students have sung their name
  • Echo slide whistle sounds to warm up voices
  • Echo song 'In the Woods"
  • Peep Squirrel - listen to the songs while the students take turns coming up with motions for peep
  • Bubbles movement activity from last week using the recording Moonlight Sonata by Ludwig Van Beethoven
  • I Think Music's Neat - say the poem while patting the steady beat. Students will take turns leading the class in different ways to show the steady beat while saying the poem
  • Introduce the Glockenspiel. Demonstrate the glockenspiel vertically to show notes at the top are higher and notes at the bottom are low. Let each student take a turn playing the glockenspiel either up or down as directed by the teacher.
  • Learn the song to Hickory Dickory Dock. Students will take turns adding the up and down playing on the Glockenspiels for the words up and down in the poem.

2nd Grade
  • March in the Mr. Drum
  • Echo slide whistle sounds to warm up voice
  • Sing the echo song Kye Kye Kule - adding the motions
  • Listen to and perform actions to Hop Old Squirrel song from last week
  • Bubbles movement activity from last week using the recording Moolight Sonata by Ludwig Van Beethoven
  • Rhythm echo using body percussion - stomps, pats, claps and snaps
  • Review how to read the rhythms of Quarter Notes (TA) Eighth Notes (Ti-Ti) and Quarter Rests (Shh) from 1st Grade
  • Practice reading rhythm cards if the class is ready
  • Charlie Over the Ocean - Introduce the instrument the ocean drum and how to play it. Learn song by following the fish visual to show how the music moves up and down. Students will sing the song and take turns rotating through the xylophone, glockenspiels and ocean drum. Continue the song and activity until all students have played at least once.
  • Award Beahavior Beats and line up
