Lesson Plan 1 - August 11th - 22nd, 2014
*Words to the songs and poems used in the lessons will be entered under each grade level tab at the top of the blog*
Kindergarten
- March in the room to Mr. Drum's steady beat.
- Learn seating spots on the tape.
- Welcome Song - "Welcome Boys and Girls" - listen and then sing along
- "My Poor Hand is Shaking" - Song. Shake different parts of the body to the beat of the song.
- Go over MUSIC Rules. Picture of the rules below.
- Sing "Goin' to the Farm". Students will then guess what animals we might meet on the farm.
- When we get to the ducks stop and then sing the song "Listen to the Ducks". Students will clap on the Quacks in the song.
- Introduce the Rhythm Sticks and practice playing them in different ways. Clicking, Rubbing, and Tapping on the ground.
- Play rhythm sticks to the Quacks in the song "Listen to the Ducks".
- Take up rhythm sticks and learn the line up procedures.
1st Grade
- March in the room to Mr. Drum's steady beat.
- Learn seating spots on the tape.
- Sing Echo Song "Down by the Bay" learned in Kindergarten.
- Go over MUSIC Rules. Picture of the rules below.
- Sing "Welcome Back to School". Students will clap, snap, pat, or jump and count to 8 as directed by the song.
- Introduce the 6 instruments: cowbell, triangle, tambourine, guiro, woodblocks, and hand drum. Discuss how to play them and the instrument family they belong to. Metals, Woods, or Skins.
- Add each instrument to the song "Welcome Back to School" in place of clapping, snapping, or patting and counting to 8.
- Play instrument passing game between each singing of the song to give each student a turn on the instruments.
- Put instruments away and learn the line up procedures.
2nd Grade
- March in the room to Mr. Drum's steady beat.
- Learn seating spots on the tape.
- Play "Each Peach, Pear, Plum" Name game. Each student will pat the steady beat to the poem and have a turn to say their name to the class.
- Go over MUSIC Rules. Picture of the rules below.
- Learn poem "Go Go Go" and the clapping part to go with it.
- Discuss the hand drums and add hand drums to the poem in place of the clapping.
- Play hand drums with the poem and pass drums around the room between each saying of the poem.
- Student helpers will take up the drums and class will learn line up procedures.
