Lesson Plan March 4-15

Kindergarten
  • March in to Mr. Drum. Play Mr. Drum says using different types of movement gallop, jump, hop, etc.
  • Warm-Up our voices with Kitty echoing her different kitty sounds
  • Sing Naughty Kitty Cat while keeping a steady beat with Kitty
  • Introduce the Dr. Seuss book My Many Colored Days.
  • Briefly discuss different ways we can feel, such as happy, sad, scared, silly, peaceful, sleepy, etc.
  • Pass out different colored scarves and ask each student to move their scarf to match several different feelings. Questions asked "How would your scarf move if it were happy?" Students are to move their scarves without making any addition sounds.
  • Read the story My Many Colored Days and move our scarves to the music to match each day's mood. The red scarf will move on the red day, the blue scarf on the blue day, etc. Students will match the mood of the color and the music with their scarf.
  • Turn in scarves, award behavior beats and line up.
1st Grade
  • March in to Mr. Drum
  • Voice Warm-Up: Toss Across game from last lesson
  • Echo Song In the Woods. Test students memory for the order of the things in the song. Tree, Branch, Nest, Egg, Bird, Wing, Bug, Germ, Smile.
  • Introduce the Dr. Seuss book My Many Colored Days.

2nd Grade
  • Voice Warm-Up: Toss Across game from last lesson
  • Introduce Jazz Music and Scat Singing. Discuss what is special about jazz music.
  • Listen to and interact with the story Freddie the Frog and the Flying Jazz Kitten. Students will echo different scat phrases throughout the story and imitate the different instruments playing in the Jazz band using scat.
  • After the story recreate a part of the jazz band using the drum, bass, and piano sounds. Practice all sounds from the story and then divide the students into two parts. One part will be the drum sounds and the other part will be the bass sounds. The teacher will add the piano sounds. Each group switch parts until all have tried each part.
  • Divide students into groups and give each group a set of four scat word cards. Each group is to organize their words in the order they think is best. Each group will perform their scat phrase for the class. The class will practice being good audience members while each group is performing. Bonus: Students may come up with movements
