Lesson Plan for January 3 - 13

Kindergarten
  • March in to Mr. Drum using loud and soft sounds and steps
  • Voice Warm-up: Pathways follow a path up and down with our voices going higher and lower
  • Pitter Patter: Listen to the simple song and put pitter patter raindrop in our fingers
  • Johnny on the Woodpile: echo song
  • It's a Brand New Year: students will learn the song to sing about the New Year!
  • What did you get for Christmas?: students will sing an answer to a sung question "What did you get for Christmas?"
  • Introduce the instrument Boomwhackers and how to play and not to play them. Disuss the different sounds they make (higher and lower)
  • Call students up to pick out a Boomwhacker. When all students have a Boomwhacker, we will echo the teacher and practice playing it on our hands, knees, feet, and floor.
  • Introduce and learn the song Little Snowflakes that we will be using next time in music class.
  • Award Behavior Beats and line-up
1st Grade
  • March in the Mr. Drum
  • Voice Warm-up: Pathways follow a path up and down with our voices going higher and lower
  • Christmas is Now Over: learn the poem and clapping and patting pattern to accompany the poem (pat, pat, clap, clap) At the end of the poem three students will have the opportunity to share what they got for Christmas. The game continues until all students have had a turn. 
  • Word and Rhythm Chains: Review Ta's, Ti's and Rests. Choose four gifts that were received for Christmas and put it to a rhythm. Link the words/rhythms together to create one long rhythm. Students practice reading the words and rhythms. Change the order of the words to create a challenge. 
  • Introduce the instrument Boomwhackers and how to play and not to play them. Disuss the different sounds they make (higher and lower)
  • Call students up to pick out a Boomwhacker. When all students have a Boomwhacker, we will echo the teacher and practice playing it on our hands, knees, feet, and floor.
  • Learn the hand signs Sol and Mi by echoing
  • Award Behavior Beats and Line-up
2nd Grade
  • March in to Mr. Drum using fast and slow tempos
  • Voice Warm-up: Pathways follow a path up and down with our voices going higher and lower
  • Play the Sol-La-Mi Game that we learned before Christmas break
  • Christmas is Now Over: learn the poem and clapping and patting pattern to accompany the poem (pat, pat, clap, clap) At the end of the poem three students will have the opportunity to share what they got for Christmas. The game continues until all students have had a turn. 
  • Call students up to pick out a Boomwhacker. When all students have a Boomwhacker, we will echo the teacher and practice playing it on our hands, knees, feet, and floor.
  • Introduce and prepare for the story "Freddie the Frog and the Mysterious Wahoooo!" : Discuss Tempo (how fast or slow something is said or played), echoing the Wahoooo!, and relate the different tempos to Mr. Drums tempos from the beginning of class.
  • Begin listening to the story "Freddie the Frog and the Mysterious Wahooooo! 
  • Award behavior beats and line-up.
