Lesson Plans for OCT 18-29

Kindergarten
  • March to Mr. Drum practicing keeping a steady beat
  • Show the steady beat for the song In the Hall of the Mountain King
  • Slide Whistle Echo - vocal exploration and warm-up
  • Continue playing the game Good King Leopold to give more student a chance to be the King
  • Call and response singing Q: "Sing me a color?"  A: "I'll sing _______" 
  • Use call and response singing to play The Monster Game. Students acquire different monster parts when they sing the answer to the question
1st Grade
  • March to Mr. Drum using different types of locomotor movement (walking, sliding, hopping, skipping, tiptoe)
  • Show the steady beat for the song In the Hall of the Mountain King
  • Slide Whistle Echo - vocal exploration and warm-up
  • Sing Me Your Name
  • Review "I think Music's Neat" label the steady beat and learn Ta (quarter note)
  • Discussing speaking versus singing after learning the song Do You Know the Muffin Man?
  • Introduce rhythm reading using Muffins and the word yum!
2nd Grade
  • March to Mr. Drum changing between fast and slow movements
  • Discuss steady beat versus rhythm using Charlie Over the Ocean as and example
  • Show the steady beat for In the Hall of the Mountain King
  • Sol-Mi echo review
  • Charlie Over the Ocean instrument game using the steady beat and ocean drum
  • Introduce solfege note La
  • Practice Sol-Mi-La and compare the notes to the Traffice Light and learn the Traffic Lights song
